A 91-YEAR-OLD man who fell and broke his hip outside his home had to wait almost two hours in the freezing cold for an ambulance.
Five calls were made to the emergency service by anxious good samaritans who had gone to Ernest Clewer’s aid.
When an ambulance did arrive, Mr Clewer, of Keighley, was taken to Airedale Hospital where the next day he had hip replacement surgery.
His wife, Elaine, 79, said: “The first call for an ambulance was made at 11.45am and it was just turned 1.30pm when one turned up – it’s appalling.
“He was laid there all that time on the wet ground, in the cold.”
Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust has apologised for the delay, blaming a high volume of calls.
