A MUSICAL group of children from a Bingley school have formed a jazz band.
The five pupils from Lady Lane Park School, aged between eight and 11, have combined to create the Smooth Grove Jazz Group.
The creative children have worked on their own pieces of music and play instruments including guitar, drums and the violin.
Their varied collection of instruments also includes the bodhran, a traditional Celtic frame drum which is goatskin-covered.
The band includes Ozair Zamir, Toby King, Jennifer Hutton, Nathaniel Smith and Hugh Murray producing the smooth sounds.
They made their performing debut in front of teachers and fellow pupils at the school last month.
The group is now working on a new musical piece, which they will perform, again in front of the school, for the first time at Easter.
Headteacher Gill Wilson praised the children for using their initiative to form the band, adding their love of music brought them together.
She said: “It’s a fantastic initiative from the children to write and perform their own music.
“They have done it with no input.
“It went down an absolute storm when they performed at the school.”
