A KEIGHLEY disability group has launched a campaign to encourage disabled people to vote in elections.
People First Keighley and Craven, which is run by adults with learning disabilities, has organised a workshop package entitled Pushing Politics.
The “lively and interactive” session will help people with learning disabilities discover how they can vote.
Participants will think about why voting is important, and look at the outlook and ethos of the main political parties. A People First spokesman said people with learning disabilities were far less likely to vote than the rest of the population.
He said: “We feel it is essential to encourage everyone to participate in the political system so that their voices can be heard.”
Anyone interested in hosting the workshop should e-mail peoplefirst@live.co.uk, or call Brian Wakeling or Julie Olsson on 01535 607222.
