A FUND launched to boost business has helped 8,000 UK companies through 400 projects and programmes and created or safeguarded 100,000 jobs and distributed more than £1 billion.
The Regional Growth Fund, established in 2010 by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, has backed 48 initiatives in Yorkshire, including several in the Bradford district.
This included a £2.4 million grant to expand Borg Warner’s Bradford turbocharger plant, which secured a major deal to supply Jaguar Land Rover which created 130 skilled jobs.
Nick Clegg said: “It is great news that the Regional Growth Fund has now reached the landmark of supporting its 8,000th company. This innovative fund is helping companies to invest, expand and to create sustainable jobs in the local community.
“Rebalancing the economy and boosting regional growth has been a top priority for me. It is a key part of building a stronger economy and fairer society.”
