A TRIP to the panto in Bradford helped celebrate a landmark year in a young heart patient’s life.

In July 2014 Gabrysia Filarowski marked the fifth anniversary of the heart transplant which saved her life.

And the year was brought to an end in style when she was treated to a trip to the Alhambra Theatre to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, featuring previous X Factor winner Joe McElderry.

Six-year-old Gabrysia, of Horsforth, was born with a rare heart condition and would have died without the surgery carried out at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle at just one year old.

She was treated to the panto trip – and was taken by a chauffeur – by housebuilder Redrow, which has also donated £300 to the Children’s Heart Unit Fund, which raises money for equipment, facilities, aftercare and research for the Children’s Heart Unit and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Freeman Hospital.

Father Andrew said: “Gabrysia is an absolute star. She understands that she’s different but she somehow makes sense of it all and is full of life.”
