PEOPLE in Bradford are being urged to be on their guard against telephone fraudsters.
West Yorkshire Trading Standards bosses have warned that several phone scams are being used to try to con householders into parting with cash.
Some callers claim the person has won a prize draw and request a ‘fee’ to release the money.
Others purport to be from a computer or communications company and are seeking a payment to rectify a virus or other issue.
“Fraudsters often target the vulnerable as they think they will be more susceptible to their tricks but anyone can fall victim to a telephone scam,” said David Lodge (pictured), head of West Yorkshire Trading Standards.
“With fewer than ten per cent of all scams and frauds reported, there are many, many criminals still operating out there, stealing from unsuspecting consumers.
“For these fraudsters to be brought to justice, we need members of the public to be confident in reporting them to the authorities.
“Please call Citizens Advice on 03454 040506 or Action Fraud on 0845 7034599. You won’t only be making a positive impact to your life but also to the lives of countless others.”
