SHIPLEY MP Philip Davies has criticised the omission from the New Year Honours List of Welcome to Yorkshire boss Gary Verity, who masterminded moves to bring the Tour de France Grand Départ to the region last summer.
Mr Davies had called for Mr Verity (pictured) to receive a knighthood in recognition of the key part he played in winning and staging the event in July.
The Tory MP said :"Quite honestly I'm gutted . If anyone deserved a knighthood is is Gary Verity.
"He was the driving force behind bringing the grand depart to this area.
"It was a hugely successful event enjoyed by thousands of people which put Yorkshire on the map across the world.
"It's ridiculous that he has been overlooked when the honours were being decided.
"The Grand Départ would not have happened here if it had not been for Gary 's inspiration and drive. I'm bitterly disappointed."
