A WOMAN was killed when she was hit by a train near Hipperholme tunnel, it has been confirmed.

Northern Rail replaced some services with buses following the incident, just after 6pm last night, though services returned to normal later in the evening.

British Transport Police confirmed they had been called to a report of a train striking a woman and that she had been pronounced dead at the scene.

West Yorkshire Police and paramedics also attended the incident, at the east end of the tunnel.

There were no suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
