A TAKEAWAY delivery driver had to abandon his car after it burst into flames while he drove through Bradford.

The driver was alerted to smoke pouring from the Smart car as he drove on Little Horton Road this afternoon and he pulled up and got out of the stricken vehicle before calling firefighters.

They were able to douse the flames but the vehicle was destroyed and heat from the flames had caused minor damage to two other cars parked nearby.

The cause of the fire is believed to have been an electrical fault.

Firefighters from the Bradford station dealt with the incident and police arranged for the wreckage to be recovered.
