BINGLEY is set to get a new shop and wine bar as an independent merchant expands to the town.
Martinez Wines has been a fixture in Ilkley for more than 30 years and is now preparing to open a second outlet in Bingley’s former Conservative Club.
The shop, bar and an upstairs function hall was granted a licence by Bradford Council yesterday, after one resident withdrew their objection ahead of the licensing meeting.
Business owner Jonathan Cocker had not been at the meeting but afterwards, he welcomed the decision. He said: “Bingley needs regenerating, and hopefully we can help with that.”
Mr Cocker said it was hoped to open the business in the first half of 2015.
The panel imposed three conditions on the licence.
These were to maintain a CCTV system and keep the recordings for 30 days, to operate a Challenge 21 policy and to refrain from putting bottles in outside bins between 11pm and 7am.
The licensed hours will be 9am to 11pm daily for the shop and 11am to 1.30am daily for the function hall.
The bar’s hours will be 11am to 11pm, Sunday to Thursday, and 11am to midnight, Friday and Saturday.
