A MAN aged 88 was critically ill in hospital last night after sustaining head injuries in a road collision.
He was attempting to cross Oakdale Avenue, Wibsey, at about 9.30am when he was struck by a Toyota Yaris, with the impact causing him to fall under the rear end of a Ford Focus, about 20 metres from the junction with St Enoch’s Road. Police said his injuries were “significant and serious.”
He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment and a man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while over the alcohol limit.
PC Andrew Gudgeon said: “This incident occurred at one of the busiest times of the morning and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed it.
