A MAN was taken to hospital tonight after trying to tackle a fire which broke out in the bedroom of a house in Cleckheaton.
Firefighters were called to the detached house in the Moor Bottom area to reports of a fire in a first floor bedroom.
They found an occupant, aged in his mid-20s, had tried to extinguish the flames himself but was beaten back and sustained slight burns and smoke inhalation before leaving the house to wait for firefighters to arrive.
Crews from the Cleckheaton and Batley stations attended and were able to confine the fire to the bedroom and landing area of the modern house.
The injured man was taken to Dewsbury Hospital and fire service investigators started work to try to establish the cause of the fire, which was initially unclear.
