A CITY centre safety scare was inadvertently sparked by a worker who fumigated an unoccupied flat without realising that would trigger the fire alarm.
As a result, a security official at Landmark House in Broadway called West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Because there was no expected smell of burning, but an unfamiliar odour instead, firefighters were preparing to evacuate the building as part of their safety procedures, but the worker responsible returned and explained the situation.
A fire and rescue service spokesman said protocols had worked well to ensure no-one was put at risk and said the brigade would be making contact with the firm involved to try to ensure the situation was not repeated.
