YORKSHIRE folk have confirmed their reputation for holding onto their ‘brass’ in a new survey which reveals that they would prefer a £250 Christmas bonus to extra time off – but only one per cent would donate it to charity.
Findings by accountants PwC reveal that 58 per cent of employees would prefer a cash bonus rather than two days’ extra leave, against seven per cent nationally.
John Harding, PwC employment tax partner, said: “Our research highlights that cash is still king this Christmas as employees overwhelmingly place a higher value on a small amount of extra pay above all other benefits – even extra time off with their families this Christmas.
“Employers should consider what it is that their workers will really value. More targeted employee benefits could actually end up saving many companies millions of pounds a year on benefits that their people do not value.”
