CRIME victims in the district can now make a report and track its progress online instead of dialling the non-emergency 101 number.
The new online system at westyorkshire.police.uk/crimetracker gives people a quick alternative option to contact the police.
A red button on the page allows you to report a crime and a green button tracks it, says West Yorkshire Police, Assistant Chief Constable Mark Milsom (pictured) said: “The use of technology continues to open up new possibilities and provide the best possible service to our communities. The Local Crime Tracker keeps the victim updated with a status of the crime and details of the officer dealing with their case. It is a tool designed to handle non-emergencies enquiries only, and is not an alternative to 999 number which is used for crimes or incidents that are currently taking place.” he said.
Filling in a simple online gets a Crime Reference Number and when that it typed into the police website so police action of the crime can be tracked 24 hours a day. It is also possible for written messages to be left for the officer dealing with the case.
