FRIENDS of a man fighting cancer are organising a Boxing Day benefit to help him get out of the house.

Former nightclub manager “Pearly” Bob Mitchell says he is trapped inside his home in Brontë Drive, Keighley, because he cannot negotiate the steps outside.

Proceeds from the fundraising event could be spent on adaptations so that Bob can get his wheelchair through the door and onto his drive.

The benefit event, taking place at the New Variety Club in Russell Street, Keighley, from 2pm into the evening, will feature local singers John Driver and Frank Farkas and comedian Farrell Butler.

The event is the brainchild of Mr Mitchell’s friend Mick McGuinness, who is seeking local bands that are willing to perform for free on December 26.

The venue is being provided for free by club owner Elaine Marshall, a life-long friend of the Mitchells, and another friend, Bradford boxing promoter John Calavanski, is also involved.

Any acts willing to perform at the benefit, should contact Mr McGuinness on 07833 532293.
