A SHISHA lounge that was set up without planning permission will be allowed to remain open, but only if it shuts before midnight.
Planning officers at Bradford Council have approved a retrospective application by Khadeem Hussain to turn part of Palace Weddings function hall on City Road into a shisha lounge and extend the building.
The application had been submitted after the council issued an enforcement notice last year.
Currently 525 sq m of the building is used as a shisha lounge with 970 sq m as a wedding hall.
The council had refused plans for the wedding hall in 2006, but they were overturned by a government planning inspector at a subsequent appeal. But the council claims the building’s owners have still not met all the conditions of that appeal decision, the requirement to provide details of car parking and noise mitigation schemes.
Despite this, officers approved the shisha application last week on the condition that the lounge only opens between 8am and midnight.
