A FORMER Ibiza DJ from Bradford who recently swapped beats for bowls in a bid to win Commonwealth gold has just missed out on European qualification despite an unbeaten performance.
In only his second official World Bowls Tour international tournament appearance, Graham Poucher, 35, who was born and grew up in Bradford, took part in the European Masters Qualifiers at New Earswick, York.
Mr Poucher, senior press officer for Welcome to Yorkshire raised a few eyebrows after he was unbeaten in the four-man group stage four-man group stage unbeaten – winning and losing a set in each match – meaning he narrowly missing out on the quarter finals on points difference.
Former Queensbury High School pupil Mr Poucher, said: “Being so new to the sport, it was an unbelievable feeling walking away from the qualifiers unbeaten, especially given the national and international standard of some of the opponents. That said, I’m disappointed because one more set would have seen me qualify for the quarter finals and who knows what happens after that.”
The qualifiers were an official World Bowls Tour tournament, meaning he has now earned 6 world ranking points.
