A KEIGHLEY chippy owner headed north to learn more about a fish’s journey from sea to shop.
Mark Faichney, who runs Old Time Fisheries with wife Jane, took part in an educational study trip to Peterhead, Europe’s largest whitefish port.
During the two-day venture – part of the West Lane business’s reward for reaching the finals of the prestigious National Fish & Chip Awards – he and fellow finalists visited Peterhead fish market and attended a networking evening.
Graham Young – of Seafood Scotland, which hosted the trip with the Scottish Seafood Partnership – said: “Feedback from the finalists was very positive and they learned a lot during their visit.” Old Time Fisheries, which opened just eight months ago, is competing against two others for the ‘best newcomer’ accolade at the awards next month.
