A NEW healthy eating guide aimed at South Asian families with diabetes has been launched.
The Enjoy Food guide sees Diabetes UK and Tesco join forces and has been written in combined English, Urdu, Bengali and Guajarati. It will help South Asian families with diabetes shop, cook and eat well, and take the uncertainty out of cooking with diabetes. It gives nutritional advice and recipes and suggests ways to make traditional dishes healthier.
Tips on shopping for food, meal planning and healthy swaps are also included.
Eating a healthy balanced diet is key to managing both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, Traditional Asian recipes are often high in fat, salt and sugar, so blood glucose levels can become unstable. South Asians are up to six times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes, and earlier. For a copy of the guide, go to diabetes.org.uk/enjoyfood.
