A YOUTH project in the Spen Valley is celebrating after picking up two national awards.
The Spen Valley Young Leaders Group was recognised at the British Youth Council’s Youth on Board Awards 2014.
One gong went to group member Amy Curtis, who was determined not to let cancer get in the way of her goals. She took a leadership course, and then went on to work with her local tenants’ and residents’ association and raise money for charity.
She said: “I’m so proud of everything I’ve achieved.
“This time last year I would of never dreamed of coming so far, with or without cancer.”
Project co-ordinator Raz Mohammed, said: “The project allows young people to be at the core of the decision-making process and equips them with skills and knowledge to plan, deliver and evaluate events. The model has worked extremely well, and there have been many positive outcomes already for young people.”
