A LANDMARK mosaic made by creative children has gone on display in Bradford.
A group of 24 youngsters, aged between seven and 16, have taken part in a scheme to learn all about Arabic calligraphy. This was run by Islamic calligraphy artist Razwan Ul-Haq.
The main goal of the project was to teach youngsters the art of calligraphy, so they could help design a mosaic which would be a public landmark on the scheme.
The mosaic was designed by Saher Khan, ten, who lives in Clarendon Court. This mosaic centres around the script ‘Salaam’ which means peace in Arabic.
It was officially opened at Clarendon Court, Lumb Lane, by Manningham Housing Association’s vice-chairman Fazlul Haq.
The group also used a KUFIC script, which the group used for the tiles to make up the mosaic. Rehana Begum, neighbourhood officer at Manningham Housing Association, said: “The mosaic is a landmark and it will be permanently on display at Clarendon Court.
“The event went really well, more girls than boys took part.”
