A BRADFORD couple thought to have the longest marriage in the world have notched up yet another milestone.
Karam and Kartari Chand (pictured), of Girlington, have celebrated an incredible 89 years of marriage. Friends and family gathered to help the pair celebrate only weeks after they held a joint birthday party for Mr Chand, 109, and Mrs Chand, 102. Their son Paul Chand said he was “very emotional”.
Asked whether they were now looking ahead to a possible 90th anniversary next year, he said every day was a blessing.
He said: “We don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow morning, so let’s enjoy what we have got.”
The couple were married in a Sikh ceremony in the Punjab in 1925 during the height of the British Raj.
Their family now consists of four generations with a huge family tree stretching down from Mr and Mrs Chand and including some 30 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
