A BRADFORD hairdresser has had her beloved locks shaved off in aid of a charity close to her family’s hearts.

Hannah Wardman (pictured), of Thornton, raised more than £6,300 for the MS Society - beating her original target of £5,000. The 25-year-old’s dad, Neil, suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS). He was diagnosed with relapsing remitting MS in 2005 and daily he suffers from fatigue, dizziness and problems with balance. Hannah said there are days when her dad’s speech is affected and he experiences pain down the whole left side of his body. “I wanted to raise awareness about MS as a lot of people have no idea what it is,” said Hannah who works at De Luca Hair Boutique in Thornton.

She added: “I think shaving your head is quite a huge thing for a woman to do. As well as me being a hairdresser, people who know me know how much my hair means to me. I’ve had so many different colours and styles.

“I thought shaving my hair was quite a personal act and would raise a significant amount of money.”

She added: “To be honest my bald head feels great and quite a lot of people have said how much it suits me. On nights out people ask me about it and then give me donations. People have been very generous.

“If I’m totally honest I didn’t think I would reach my target as it’s a lot to ask, but with the help of my amazing friends and family it’s been possible.

“My dad said he was so proud of me. I know he found it very emotional. Let’s just say there were lots of tears on the day.”
