GLOBAL trade experts in Bradford have helped to enable a two-man local exporter to clinch a key deal in Sri Lanka.
Experts at Chamber International, based in Little Germany, including former banking advisors and shipping managers, completed a ‘clean’ letter of credit presentation for Specialist Laminates Ltd, a division of Unilam Machinery Ltd, based at Ravenscliffe Mills, Calverley. The company won an order to supply drums of resin solution for production of laminated glass by its customer CPP Industries.
Dean Raven, Specialist Laminates export sales manager, said: “Although we’ve supplied this customer before, I’m new to the logistics side of exporting and did not have the expertise to deal with letters of credit which can be complicated and hinder payment unless you know exactly what you’re doing.
“Chamber International was recommended to me and handled the whole process, enabling us to get paid very quickly. They removed a lot of pressure from me, reducing my workload and eliminating deadlines. I will certainly be using them again when we are required to work with letters of credit.”
Specialist Laminates was launched in 2013 as an independent division of Unilam Machinery. It distributes products, including resin solutions and has a £1million annual turnover.
The business, which has only two staff, exports 70 per cent of its sales and has major markets in Asia, Africa, Europe and The Middle East.
Chamber International trade services manager, Michealla Platts, said: “After being asked to support Specialist Laminates, we dealt directly with their overseas client and nominated freight forwarders. The letter of credit covered both an air and sea shipment and allowed, subject to correct presentation of documents, a guaranteed and swift payment which was achieved.
Chamber International helps hundreds of new and experienced exporters with a range of specialist services, including a full letter of credit work, export documentation, sales quotation content, liaising with freight forwarders and insurers and presenting accurate documents to banks for payment.
Chamber International also runs the export network as part of the Leeds city region We are International campaign, aimed bringing in an additional £1.6billion to the ten local authority areas, including Bradford, and creating thousands of jobs by 2018.
