BRADFORD College will award five Honorary Fellowships to a group including a top local weatherman, the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire and the Bishop of West Yorkshire next week.
The ceremonies will be held at St George's Hall on Monday and Tuesday, and as well as the hundreds of students getting rewarded for their hard work, the college will be awarding its highest honour to the five figures for their contribution to the area.
Those being awarded with the fellowships are;
* Paul Hudson, Look North weather forecaster who, as a teenager, wrote columns in the Telegraph & Argus and Keighley News.
* Dr Ingrid Roscoe, who became the first female Lord-Lieutenant in the north of England in 2004, having served as a Deputy and then Vice Lord-Lieutenant for the previous decade.
* Bishop Nick Baines, The Anglican Bishop of Leeds for the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales, who is known to millions due to his blogs, broadcasts and books. He became Bishop of Leeds for the reorganised diocese earlier this year, having previously served as Bishop of Bradford.
* Ilkley born Paul Mackie, president of Bradford Chamber of Commerce and chairman of construction consultancy Rex Procter & Partners. Leaving school without any A levels he soon worked his way up in the business word and now leads six different companies which together have 110 employees and £10m turnover.
* Khalid Al-Hamar, a successful Qatar born businessman and former naval officer, as well as former Bradford College pupil, who has been instrumental in ensuring over 500 students from Qatar have studied at the college. He has been credited with adding to the colleges diversity, as well as to the local economy.
Bradford College Group Chief Executive Officer, Andy Welsh said: “We wish our graduates and Honorary Fellows every success in their future careers. We are very proud of them and we look forward to celebrating their invaluable contributions to the continued development of Bradford, the region and communities overseas.”
Bradford College Principal, Kathryn Oldale said: “We congratulate our 2014 graduates and Honorary Fellows and wish them every success for the future. As graduates of Bradford College, they will be following in the footsteps of over 180 years of remarkable people who have made a difference regionally, nationally and internationally.”
Many students and their families from countries including Pakistan, India and China are expected to make special trips from overseas to take part in the two days of celebration.
There will be three ceremonies on Monday and two on Tuesday.
