SCORES of students and staff at the University of Bradford are putting on their trainers for the City Run in aid of the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal.
The £1 million appeal - a joint fundraiser by the T&A, The University of Bradford, Yorkshire Cancer Research and the Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust - is the official charity partner for this year's run.
The appeal aims to raise enough money to buy a new machine for use by researchers at the university's Institute of Cancer Therapeutics to help then city's ground-breaking work to fight the disease.
We're aiming to get 200 fundraisers signed up for the annual event , which this year is on Sunday, October 26. It includes a children's one-mile race, a 5k, a 10k and half-marathon.
Now a squad of at least 50 people from a host of the University of Bradford's sports teams and staff will be taking part in the various disciplines of races on the day.
Already ten members of the equestrian team are taking part, alongside another ten people from the lacrosse team.
The university's football, hockey and trampolining squads are among the other sides expected to field a few of their members on the day.
Rob Hartley, the University of Bradford's athletics union vice-president, said: "We want as many people as we can from the university to get involved with it.
"There will be a large presence from the university in the race. We're looking to get at least 50 signed up for it.
"We will be pushing from now to get people signed up.
"There are club runs taking place from a host of sports teams every day now.
"We take seriously anything that has been organised from the Crocus Appeal. It's also good for us to get out there with the community and it's good that we have plenty of interest from people in taking part.
"I'm not quite sure whether I will be running the 10k or the half-marathon yet."
Help support the Crocus Appeal by wearing fancy dress for the family race and 5k run, and the best dressed could win a family weekend break at Park Resorts.
The event has been organised by Bradford Council and Bradford Athletics Network.
All routes start and finish in City Park and all roads will be closed to traffic, offering runners and spectators a unique city centre event.
More than 400 runners took part in last year's City Runs and this year organisers hope to attract 1,000 entrants and we want 200 of them to run in aid of the Crocus Appeal.

Running fundraisers who sign up for Crocus can receive physio massages and a post-race tea or coffee at The Turls Green in City Park.
