Army bomb squad experts were called in and homes evacuated after a suspect package was found in Otley.
Emergency services were alerted shortly before 1 pm today at Newall Mount, with the B6451 closed at Billams Hill, near Prince Henry’s Grammar School, as a precaution.
Neighbouring homes were also evacuated.
A military bomb disposal team arrived and examined the package, which was found to be “totally harmless” according to West Yorkshire Police.
Neighbours were allowed to return to their homes later in the afternoon.
