New university league tables show that the University of Bradford has risen by seven places in the national rankings in the past year.
It rose from 90th to 83rd in the Guardian University Guide, which ranks institutions based on teaching scores, value for money and career prospects.
The year before that it had been ranked 91st out of 118 universities.
Also revealed in the table is that 69 per cent of students had found a graduate-level job, or have gone onto further study within six months of leaving university. The best-performing university in this category is Imperial College, at 88 per cent, and the worst is Bucks New University, at 44 per cent.
Information gained from a national student satisfaction survey showed that 82 per cent of students were happy with the university overall, with 81 per cent happy with teaching.
Cambridge came top of the table.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford Professor Brian Cantor said: “This reflects the efforts that the university has made in supporting students to allow them to reach their potential.”
Councillor Ralph Berry, executive for children’s services, said: “The University is a key partner in the regeneration of our city so this is great to hear.”
