Bradford’s biggest sports centre will host its first triathlon later this month.

The event, at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre (pictured) on June 29, will be aimed at first-timers and serious athletes alike.

Triathlons can vary in distance, and this one is a sprint-style shorter course.

Competitors will start with a 400m swim in the pool, with swimmers setting off in waves of eight or 12.

They will then cycle 10km around the Odsal sports centre’s cycle track before tackling a 5km run to Horsfall Stadium and back.

The event is being organised by Bradford Council’s sport and leisure service, in conjunction with the national sporting body Triathlon England.

The authority’s first triathlon – the Great Northern Trail in Queensbury – was held earlier this year.

Places cost £15 and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. To find out more, or to book a place, visit bradford.gov.uk/ triathlon or phone the Richard Dunn Sports Centre on 01274 434700.

Triathlon training sessions will be held at selected Council swimming pools.
