The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 29, on board the 8.11am Leeds to Plymouth service.
Det Con Ian Grice, of British Transport Police, said: “Between Leeds and Sheffield, the victim noticed a man sitting in an adjacent seat appearing to take inappropriate photographs of her with a mobile phone.”
Officers have analysed CCTV from the train, and stations, and released images of a man they want to speak to.
DC Grice added: “BTP will not tolerate inappropriate behaviour.”
