The organisation with the job of attracting visitors to Bradford is asking for help from the people who know the area best – its residents.

Visit Bradford, the marketing office for the city and its surroundings, is to produce a promotional video to lure visitors.

It wants to tap into the insider knowledge residents have of the hidden treasures, sights and sounds which when featured on video will make the city a must-visit destination.

The video will be used on Visit Bradford’s websites and across social media.

Sarah Howsen, senior tourism development officer at Visit Bradford, said: “Not only does Bradford and the surrounding district have so much to offer visitors, it is also full of local people who are passionate about the place where they live.

“What better way to attract people to the region than by seeing and hearing what we have to offer visitors directly from the people who live and breathe the area each and every day of their lives?

“Local people are being asked to submit pictures of their favourite places, things to do, and sights to see in the area via e-mail or Twitter. It could be anything from a family picture outside the Alhambra to an image of a couple sharing a picnic in the grounds of Cliffe Castle.”

Those with ideas are asked to submit pictures of their favourite places, activities or sights.

“Everyone at Visit Bradford is excited to see all of the different photo submissions. It’s a great chance for local people to reminisce about special times they have enjoyed in and around Bradford, as well as sharing their experience with others who may also want to visit the area,” she said.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Bradford Council’s executive member for Employment, Skills and Culture, said: “I see fantastic images of Bradford posted on Facebook and Twitter so I know there’s some great material and expertise out there among Bradford residents.

“I hope they’ll hear this appeal and contribute to this important piece of marketing material for the district.”

Appropriate images will be added to Visit Bradford’s Pinterest board, with a number of pictures then making it into the film.

Photo submissions can be sent to bradfordphotographs@gmail.com or via Twitter using the hashtag #BradfordPics. The closing date for submissions is Friday, June 6.
