Motorists are facing disruption with work on the district’s gas network set to close the main road between Wilsden and Cullingworth for the next three weekends.
Engineers from Northern Gas Networks will be starting work this weekend to improve the reliability of the gas network in Wilsden, closing the B6144 at Harecroft to all traffic.
Closures will be in place for the next three weekends, but the road will reopen again every Monday morning.
Engineers will be replacing ageing metal gas mains with new durable plastic pipes.
Northern Gas Networks’ construction manager, Michael Burdett, apologised to motorists for any inconvenience caused while the “essential” repairs were carried out.
“Residents have been informed of the closure and notification signs have been placed on the road,” he said.
“The safety of members of the public is always our first priority, and we’d like to thank everyone for their cooperation.”
Anyone who smells gas should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
