Budding archaeologists will soon be unearthing clues to the past.
Students from 20 local schools will head to Bolling Hall in Bradford, and Cliffe Castle in Keighley to find clues to the past by getting involved in hands on archaeological excavations in June.
The visits are part of the My Place Project, which is paid for by the Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by West Yorkshire Joint Services, in partnership with Bradford Museums and Galleries, The one month summer term digs will take place in the grounds of Cliffe Castle, from June 2 to 13, and at Bolling Hall, from June 23 to July 4.
Both sites have a varied and rich landscape that spans hundreds of years.
Two community digs will take place on Saturday, June 7, at Cliffe Castle and Saturday, June 28, at Bolling Hall.
Archaeologists hope the students will unearth finds from Medieval through to early Victorian times.
The head of Heritage at West Yorkshire Joint Services Stuart Wrathmell said: “Encouraging young people to develop a sense of belonging and ownership in their locality means we are making a sustainable investment in community cohesion, and it is clear that cultural activities are a powerful tool in engaging all sections of the community.”
