The West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner is calling for greater awareness on cyber crime following the attack on eBay.

Mark Burns-Williamson said the hacking of the auction website highlighted the importance of addressing the issue, one of his priorities, at all levels.

“Cyber crime has become an increasing concern for the West Yorkshire public and it is estimated that cyber-related fraud alone costs the UK economy £27 billion a year,” he said.

“There is no doubt that cyber crime is a part of many crimes these days, from fraud to serious organised crimes.

“There is a large amount of work being done to raise awareness and make the right investments in skills and working with not only the public sector bodies, but private sector too.”
