A man died from acid burns after he was attacked in his Bradford home, a court heard today.

Barry Selby, 50, was murdered in a act of revenge or retaliation against his son Liam and his associates, prosecutor Simon Myerson QC told Bradford Crown Court this morning.

Four men - Lee Calvert, 23, of Stirling Crescent, Holme Wood; Joseph Lowther, 21, of Copgrove Road, Holme Wood; Robert Woodhead, 28, of Fred’s Place, Tyersal; and Andrew Feather, 23, of no fixed address all deny murdering Mr Selby and have also pleaded not guilty to two firearms charges.

Mr Myerson told the jury the alleged murder happened after a series of incidents involving two groups of young men on the Holme Wood estate. One group included Lee Calvert and the other included Liam Selby.

He claimed that at 10pm on October 13 last year Calvert and his co-accused shot out the windows of a house belonging to friends of Liam Selby.

Mr Myserson alleged that four hours later Calvert and his co-accused broke into Barry Selby’s house, shot him in the leg and sprayed him with acid. Mr Selby died some days later because the acid burns caused his critical organs to fail.

A fifth defendant, Natasha Wall, 24, of Stirling Crescent, denies a charge of perverting the course of justice.
