Pupils at a Bradford school have helped cement their place in the school’s history by each laying a brick as part of a new building.

The year six “class of 2014” at Southmere Primary School, Great Horton, left their legacy as they laid bricks on the final phase of the school’s expansion.

And it came just at the right time for the pupils – only days after they finished their key stage two Sats exams.

The building, on Ewart Street, is part of an ongoing expansion to increase the number of pupils at the school to meet demand for places.

On completion, the school will have a hall, dance studio, two libraries, a range of multi-purpose study rooms and new classrooms. The summer holidays will see the school’s kitchens being refurbished.

Year six pupil Kaleem Malik said: “It was really good fun and I enjoyed myself, it will always be special to me when I visit the school because I will always know I helped to build a part of it.”

Head teacher Hayley Marshall said: “We look forward to the completion of the building and welcoming back our children and new arrivals in September.”
