Police want help to track a man who might have been trying to break in to an elderly woman’s home by pretending to be her neighbour.
The suspicious incident happened in Cousen Avenue, Great Horton, Bradford, at about 5.30pm last Wednesday when an elderly woman spotted a man looking through her living room window.
She heard knocking at her front door and asked who it was, the man then gave her neighbour’s name saying he was just checking to see if she was OK.
The woman later noticed her door had been damaged.
The suspect is described as white with a baseball cap and a local accent.
Detective Inspector Ben McDonald, of Bradford District CID, said yesterday: “We are appealing to anyone who might have seen someone of similar description acting suspiciously in the Clayton Road area, either before or after the incident.
“The suspect clearly had good local knowledge, and it is possible he may have tried to gain entry to other properties nearby.”
Anyone with information should call PC 4316 Ambler on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
