A 24-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a young mum who suffered two gunshot wounds to her stomach at her Bradford home.
Hasan Khan, of Brassey Terrace, West Bowling, who has also been charged with firearms offences, appeared at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
He was remanded in custody and will appear before a judge at Bradford Crown Court on Monday, June 2.
The 22-year-old woman, named in court as Ashleigh McPherson, remained in hospital last night for treatment to her wound,s following the shooting at her home in Longfield Drive, East Bowling, at about 3.10pm on Friday.
Prosecutor Paul Ramsey said Miss McPherson had been in the garden and went back into the house after hearing a loud bang and was subsequently shot.
He said: “After hearing a loud bang, Ashleigh went from the garden towards the front door of the house. Two shots were fired. There were significant injuries to Ashleigh.”
Miss McPherson, whose seven-year-old daughter was in the house at the time, suffered serious stomach injuries and was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Khan appeared in the dock wearing a navy blue round neck T-shirt and dark denim jeans for the 40-minute long hearing.
His solicitor, Shazad Ali, told the court he would be pleading not guilty to both charges.
Khan and a woman were arrested by armed officers on Blackpool Promenade on Saturday morning after the black Vauxhall Corsa they were in was boxed in by police vehicles.
The 25-year-old woman, of Preston, Lancashire, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and possession of heroin, has been bailed pending further inquiries.
A 17-year-old girl and 20-year-old man, both also from the Lancashire area, who were arrested during the police investigation have been released without charge.
Police said yesterday Miss McPherson was in a stable condition in hospital after undergoing emergency surgery.
Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
