Geography students at Ilkley Grammar School saw the elements they have been studying in the classroom come to life on a trip to Iceland.
Forty-seven A-level students and five staff members visited Gulfoss, Geysir, Thingvellir, Seljalandsfoss waterfall – where students learnt about isostatic and eustatic changes in sea level – Hellishiedi Geothermal Power Station and Skogar folk museum.
Jonathan Beynon, head of geography at the school, led the visit and thoroughly enjoyed it.
He said: “The accommodation was beautiful and remote, including a stay at Farm Vatnsholt, and the scenery was both beautiful and dramatic.
“With the journey home being slightly delayed and a return flight in a plane named Surtsey (after the 1963 volcanic eruption) our students, and staff, were happy to touch down with the very fondest of memories of Iceland.”
