The 16 winners in Bradford’s 2014 ModelSearch competition were crowned yesterday.
A bumper crowd at the Kirkgate Centre had clapped and cheered as 112 finalists strutted their stuff on the catwalk throughout the day in front of six judges.
Now in its 13th year, the contest is run in conjunction with the Telegraph & Argus, the Kirkgate Centre and DK Model Agency.
There were four age categories each with male and female winners and there were two winners in each category – a judges’ choice and a T&A readers’ choice.
Catherine Riley, manager of the Kirkgate Centre, said: “It has been fabulous and so difficult to judge. I would like to thank everyone for coming down and making it a special day.”
The judges’ winners were: l Four to six: Cienna Rothery, aged six, and Mohammed Adam Irfan, aged four.
l Seven to ten: Daisy Everett, ten, and Kamran Majid, seven.
l 11 to 15: Melissa Taglione, 12, and Rhys Sanasy, 11.
l 16 plus: Monique Gregoire, 24, and Emmanuel Ncube, 17.
Melissa’s mum, Eileen Taglione, of Eccleshill, said: “I just cannot believe it. I just thought it would be a day out and good for her confidence but we just cannot get over it. I think she would be great as a model, and this was a big step forward.”
Rhys, of Odsal, said: “I am really happy – I wasn’t expecting to win!”
Event organiser Amanda Dabrowski said: “I think the really good thing about this event is it brings everyone together – there is a real community feel about it.”
