Colin Oultersides, a former chairman of Ilkley Urban District Council, has died aged 90. Mr Oultersides lived all his life in Menston, until last December when he and Grace, his wife of 70 years, went to live in Scotland to be near their youngest daughter.
He trained as an RAF pilot in the war, and went into banking after it ended, later joining the family business Cadema Bakery. During this time Mr Oultersides was asked to stand as councillorwas elected and served for nine years unopposed. He was chairman in 1967.
He later fulfilled a lifetime ambition and taught at a school in Horsforth. He leaves his widow Grace and three children.
