Keighley Gala bosses are finalising plans for this year’s charity extravaganza.

And they say there are still opportunities for people to get involved.

Places are available in the procession and for stallholders at the Victoria Park venue.

The gala – the 138th – takes place on Sunday, June 8.

A contest was held at the weekend to select a gala queen and the winner was 14-year-old Charlotte Lily Carter (above), a year 10 GCSE student at Oakbank School in Keighley.

This year’s procession includes a new section, ‘best walking group – primary schools’, on a Tour de France theme.

“The category was created to encourage schools to get involved,” said gala chairman Shona Brunskill.

“We already have some entries but would dearly love more.”

The winner will receive a trophy named after former gala stalwart Brian Hudson, who died earlier this year. Judging will be by his widow, Maureen Hudson.

More entrants are also invited in the best tableau open/children sections, on a First World War centenary theme.

Attractions at the park will include a baby show, with entries being taken from 2.30pm, and a dog show, with an agility course and fun events from 12.30pm and class entries being judged at 2.30pm.

And there is space in a revised, integrated layout at the site for more charitable organisations to have free stalls to promote and raise money for their own causes.

Organisers would also like to hear from anyone able to help on the day.
