A group of parishioners who have attacked Keighley Town Council’s spending were themselves subject to a verbal onslaught at a public meeting.
Councillors and members of the public at the annual town council meeting said members of Cavetown Council were guilty of bullying. Joyce Newton, a former councillor, told Cavetown she had been bullied and insulted by many members of the group.
But Keighley resident Leo Robinson defended the group, saying: “Cavetown are not bullies. Over the last 12 months they’ve drawn attention to the financial malpractices of this town council. They brought to people’s attention the fact the civic centre is running a deficit.”
Coun Peter Corkindale said the group had described the town council as corrupt – and he said that amounted to branding him as corrupt.
