Fairport Convention are widely regarded as the most important group in the English folk rock movement.
Formed in 1967 and hailed as the originators of British folk-rock music, they remain one of the most entertaining bands on the live music scene.
Next week they are in Ilkley with a concert featuring a mix of material from recent albums as well as classics from their earlier repertoire. There will also be some new and previously unperformed songs destined for Fairport’s next studio album.
The band received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2002 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Support is from singer/songwriter Edwina Hayes who has worked with Jools Holland, Nanci Griffith and Roger McGuinn among others.
