People have been urged to start talking about what they want at the end of their lives.
The theme of this year’s Dying Matters Awareness Week is Dying Matters: You only die once.
Many people have specific wishes about what they would like to happen if they die but unless they share them there is a high chance they will not be fulfilled, according to the Bradford District Care Trust palliative care team.
Therefore, the emphasis of the week is that it is vital to talk, plan and make arrangements for the end of life – before it is too late.
Belinda Marks, the trust’s clinical lead for palliative care, said: “Starting the conversation isn’t always easy, but it doesn’t have to be gloomy or sad.
“Tell your loved ones your wishes, whatever they are. The most important thing is that you have shared them.”
The palliative care team supports people with life-limiting conditions and their families. For further information go to bdct.nhs.uk or call (01274) 323511.
