This 15kg tin man who stands 5ft 8in tall and takes a size ten shoe is to greet visitors to Bradford College.
A course tutor puts the finishing touches to the work by Fabrication and Welding students who took four months to make the creation using recycled scraps of mild steel.
Award-winning student Chris Hanson, 21, was part of the Tin Man team. He achieved a gold medal at the finals of the WorldSkills UK Skill competition and will compete for a place in the team representing the UK at WorldSkills Sao Paulo in 2015.
He said: “It’s pretty good to say it was just pieces in a cupboard that would have been thrown in the bin.”
The sculpture, made under the watchful eye of course tutor Perry Rushby, will stand outside the Bradford Bike Hub to greet visitors to the cycling centre.
