Detectives investigating the sudden death of a man found in his Bradford home hope a post-mortem examination today will confirm the reason he died.

Police were called to the flat in Owlet Road, Windhill, where Jonathan Lazenby lived by his boyfriend, who contacted the force to say he was concerned because he had been out of contact for a couple of days.

Officers met the man at Mr Lazenby’s home and discovered the body when they entered the ground-floor property.

Last night police were still making house-to-house inquiries in the neighbourhood and forensic experts carried out a detailed examination of the flat.

It is understood Mr Lazenby, who was aged in his 50s, had sustained some injuries prior to or at the time of his death, but they appeared relatively minor and the cause remained unknown.

In a statement, Det Chief Insp Nick Wallen said: “Officers were called shortly before 11.30 this morning to an address in Owlet Road to a report of concern for safety. The body of a man in his 50s was inside the property.

“Inquiries are being conducted in the local area. At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained, pending the results of a post-mortem examination,” he said.

It is anticipated that a post mortem will be conducted at some point today.

Neighbours described Mr Lazenby as a quiet man whom they knew from his regular walks with his pet dog.

Marie Simpson, who lives nearby, said: “He was really nice and I used to talk to him every day because he used to walk his dog in the area. He had a terrier.

“It was a longstanding relationship and his boyfriend must be heartbroken.”

It is believed Mr Lazenby did not work.
