Primary school children taking part in a health study by standing up at special desks, rather than sitting down, are to feature in a radio programme later this week.
The Stand out in Class study is part of the Born in Bradford project and as part of it a classroom at Grove House Primary School, Bolton, has been fitted with the sit-stand adjustable desks.
Nine and ten-year-old pupils take it in turns to use the special desks for part of the day. The aim is to reduce the amount of time the children spend sitting on an average school day and find out how this impacts upon their health, well-being and learning. An annual programme on BBC Radio 4, focusing on the work of the Born in Bradford project, will air on Friday at 11am.
It examines the links between good mental and physical health, considers communal walking as exercise and looks at green spaces in Bradford.
