The University of Bradford is rising in the ranking of the best universities in the UK, and it is among the top universities for two medical subjects.
A league table of universities released today ranks Bradford number 77 out of the UK’s 123 universities, up from last year’s placing at 83.
The 2015 ranking for The Complete University Guide also show that in two subjects – opthalmic and physiotherapy, the university was among the top ten.
The university’s vice-chancellor Professor Brian Cantor said the climb reflects efforts to make improvements in several areas.
In opthalmics, the branch of medicine that deals with the human eye, the university is ranked seventh in the UK, and for physiotherapy it is ranked nineth.
Data for the rankings was derived from official sources and has been checked directly with the universities to create an independent league table designed to help students make the best choice about where they study.
Prof Cantor said: “I am pleased to see the University of Bradford has risen in the latest Complete University Guide.
“This reflects the efforts the university has made in supporting students to allow them to reach their potential. We have enhanced student support at key points in their university experience including enrolment, yearly progression and preparing for employment.
“This has resulted in higher levels of academic attainment leading to students getting professional and managerial jobs.”
Making up the top three universities are Cambridge, Oxford and the London School of Economics. York was the top ranked university in Yorkshire and the Humber, coming in at number 14 while Leeds was ranked 23rd.
Dr Bernard Kingston, principal author of the guide, said: “The league tables, taken with the rankings for specific subjects, offer would-be students an accurate and independent guide to the UK university system.
“They should not be used in isolation but alongside all the other advice and information in the guide.”
